Preparing to Travel to Australia

With border opening on Wednesday, 15 December 2021. There are a few things that you need to know and prepare before your travel to Australia. Below information is taken from the DHA website,  for complete explanation visit Department of Home Affairs (DHA) website.

1. Check if you are exempt from travel restrictions

From 15 December 2021, fully vaccinated visa holders are able to travel to Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption. Eligible visa holders including student visa (500), working holiday visa (417 and 462), temporary graduate visa (485). For full list, you can visit DHA Website.

2. Check if you can access reduced quarantine requirements

If you are fully vaccinated, you may be eligible for reduced quarantine requirements. Each states have their own requirements. Before you book your flight, check the quarantine and other arrangements for the state or territory.

3. Obtain your International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate

You need to obtain your international vaccination certificate from the country in which you received your vaccination. Airline will check your vaccine certificate at the check-in.

4. Complete an Australia Travel Declaration (ATD) at least 72 hours before your flight

You can complete your ATD online or download the app from App Store or Google Play store. This is a legal binding documents, so please complete this correctly.

When completing your ATD, you will need to upload your vaccine certificate.

You will need to do the following also:

  • Make a legally binding declaration in relation to your vaccination status
  • Provide your last 14 days travel history
  • You need to provide negative COVID019 PCT test taken within 3 days of your flight schedule
  • Make declaration that you will comply with quarantine requirements of the state/territory of first arrival and any other states/territory to which you intend to travel and have made quarantine arrangements prior to travel where required.
5. Undertake per-departure COVID-19 test

COVID-19 PCT test negative result taken within 3 days of your scheduled flight is required for travelling to Australia and you need to provide the result at the check-in time. See the Department of Health website for in depth information about PCR test requirements, what to do if your results is positive and have recovered from COVID-19, medical exemption for pre-departure testing and countries exempt from pre-departure testing.

6. At the airport

You need to show the following when you check in for your flight:

  • International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate
  • Negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 3 days of scheduled flight
  • Completed ATD
